Anne Arundel Women Giving Together Hosts Grants Showcase Event

Awarding $65,000 in Grants to Eight Anne Arundel County Nonprofits

Serving Women and Families

[ANNAPOLIS, MD] –Anne Arundel Women Giving Together (AAWGT), a women’s giving circle, is pleased to announce eight organizations that have been chosen to receive grants from the group starting July 2010. The award recipients and their programs will be introduced at AAWGT’s annual Grants Showcase Reception, to be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Francis Scott Key Auditorium, St. John's College, in Annapolis. The event is open to the public and will give interested women an opportunity to learn more about AAWGT and its efforts to support at-risk women and families in Anne Arundel County.

This is AAWGT’s fourth annual round of grants, with $65,000 in grant funds made available through the group’s member contributions. The giving circle awards funds to programs directed to County women, families and children, particularly in the areas of education, health and welfare, or prevention of violence and abuse.

The eight Anne Arundel County nonprofits and their programs featured on June 9 will be:

  • Anne Arundel County Literacy Council, Tutor Training Workshops

  • The Arc of the Central Chesapeake Region, Family Support Services

  • Arundel Lodge, Latina Outreach Project

  • Eastport Girls’ Club, After School Program

  • Food Link, Wholesale Produce Distribution

  • Partners In Care Maryland, Inc., Repairs with Care

  • Robert A. Pascal Youth & Family Services, Stop the Violence

  • St. Philip’s Family Life Center, Extended Educational Enrichment Experience

"Being part of AAWGT is a great opportunity to connect with like-minded women, become smarter about what’s going on in our local community, and make a real difference in the lives of women and families in need. And, where else can you turn an annual $500 contribution into over $65,000 in grants?” said Lynne Davidson, President of AAWGT.

Operating under the auspices of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, AAWGT was created in late 2005 by a group of 15 women philanthropists and has grown to more than 140 members. Any women interested in joining AAWGT and being involved in next year’s grantmaking process should visit the AAWGT website at www.givingtogether.org .

Those interested in attending the Grants Showcase Reception should respond by Friday, June 2, to Gloria Martin Pressman at glopress@aol.com.
